La La Land
The opening sequence – the traffic jam on a Californian highway overlooking Los Angeles was promising and set the bar for the rest of the musical, highly energetic, colourful and good singing but it was downhill from there.
Are we missing the point? La La Land got us thinking when 3 people walked out of the cinema last week on the opening night. Was it overated? Music seemed good but the score was virtually the same throughout. Then you realise that it was meant to be so it sticks in your mind for the second time around you watch it – which you should. It definitely takes two viewings!
The ‘what’s that all about?” ending is a shock as you want it to turn out like those sentimental old musicals we are so used to nostalgically watching. The beautiful mess this modern day world leaves this romance which could have been in is a clever twist on the old fashioned musical.
S0me clever camera work, like the camera lens shutting down like the iris of an eye in the Observatory scene, reminiscent of the silent movies of the past. That amazing face of Emma Stone, those big doe eyes and the annoying snob like attitude of Ryan Gosling in his character of Sebastian draw you in and his most ecstatic outburst as he tells her about the amazing ‘draw’ of Jazz and how wonderful it is wakes you up somewhat. Sebastian’s distinctly flat voice and his awkward playing, I have to admire the guy for only learning to play the piano from May 2015, left a sour taste in my mouth.
Maybe it’s my age (middle age) but I have seen so many musicals, fantastic ones at that and this struggled to emulate that for me. Maybe I am getting cynical in my old age but I wasn’t sure what all the hype was about. On a second watching I was more prepared for the shock ending and the tunes were firmly in my head but I have to say Vincent Minelli still ‘does it’ for me and La La Land was not what I had expected.

New For 2017! Vinyl Nights
Vinyl is all the rage again! David says it never went away. Red Rooster Discos have maintained their vinyl collection throughout the years and have listened to vinyl for pleasure at home for the last 20-30 years. We own many classic albums, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, 10cc Deceptive Bends, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Madman Across the Water by Elton John and many, many others. We hold an extensive Motown Collection. Music is our passion and to deliver music to the Hi Fi quality is important to us. We have invested heavily in the last few years in our lighting and sound equipment and now our vinyl equipment and collection.
We have lots of fun delivering music to the public and sound quality and presentation is important to us. We never present a ‘cheesy show’, Red Rooster Discos are quality without compromise.
For your Vinyl Event/Night we will give you 4 hours of music and lighting for £400, each additional hour is £80. You can even bring along a selection of your own vinyl. We tailor a set playlist to your needs and set up at a convenient time for you.

Tea Dances Promote Nostalgia with Red Rooster Events
Residents having a sociable afternoon together.
Red Rooster Events have been exceptionally busy with our latest Teadances and Sing Alongs. They turn out more often than not to be a social drop in session. Most are run from 2pm
until 4pm, except the monthly ones which we hold in Pensarn at the Canolfan Dewi Sant which are from 11am until 3pm. To give you a little run down of what we do:
We start with some nice Jazz and Blues background music as people from the beginning surrounding area drop in or get brought from Residential Homes nearby and Shared Housing. Many of these people live with Dementia either personally or as carers. The group sessions provide a stimulating and enjoyable few hours of music and ‘yummy’ food in the form of home made finger sandwiches, homemade cakes, such as our Lemon Drizzle Cake, Victoria Sponge and Bara Brith as well as homemade scones with jam and cream.
Everyone can take a seat and time to have a natter with each other. The girls put out the vintage crockery, milk and sugar and lunch/afternoon tea and everyone tucks in.
See the lovely memorabilia screens set up behind our guests in the form of village shop shelving from the 50s and one which depicts a pub with beer and interior from 50s era.
Changing the music to some upbeat 50s and 60s with a bit of nostalgic Rock and Roll mean quite a few people get up to dance, having a great bit of exercise and working up an appetite . One couple ask me for a slow waltz, the gentleman used to be a pianist in a Big Band many years ago and his lovely wife is living with Dementia but she remembers the tune and suddenly breaks into a slow waltz and they have 15 minutes of nostalgic songs and dancing together, the first time for years. This is so encouraging and proves that music is a powerful trigger of memories locked away because of the nature of Alzheimer’s.
Permission is taken from the guests by Clara who works for the Wellbeing Community Team for photos to be taken and publishing of them.
We follow lunch with a Sing Along Quiz and all join in. Red Rooster provide Raffle Prizes for the raffle. Next time we might play Musical Bingo.
Dancing to 50s and 60s music
Teadance and Singalong at Dewi Sant Centre
There was quite a wide age range with one person only 7 yrs old who had come with his Mum and an elderly relative . He sang ‘Calon Lan’ at the top of his voice. He got a big round of applause needless to say. Lots of benefits in mixing younger people with the elderly, both can interact and learn a lot from each other.
We finish off with ‘ American Pie ‘ and a few Tom Jones numbers and everyone sings along. The guests depart about 3-3.30pm saying they had thoroughly enjoyed the session and would be back next month. The next two events:
To be held at Canolfan Dewi Sant, Pensarn
Monday 22nd August 11am – 3pm
Monday 19th September 11am – 3pm
Ring 01745 890367 or 07765093203 for more details.
This particular event was hosted by PSS and Conwy Wellbeing Community Team along with Red Rooster Events.
Look out for further events around Flintshire and Denbighshire advertised on our Facebook page:
Dance, songs from 50s and 60s and Afternoon Tea at Sychdyn Memorial Hall – Wednesday 7th September and every first Wednesday of the month 2pm – 4pm. All Welcome
Both events cost £3.00 per person which covers your Cream Tea. All welcome.

Music! A Powerful Trigger for The Memory
Music! A powerful trigger for your memories. So a busy week in the Rooster quarters. This week we have been to Devon, Broughton British Aerospace, Conwy and finished off with a Wedding in Oriel Country House Hotel in St Asaph.
Red Rooster Discos are working hard in conjunction with the Alzheimers’s Society to bring music and song with a little refreshment to their Service Users and Carers. We were asked to cover Donna who is the Music Coordinator for ‘Singing For The Brain’. Donna had been raising money for a very rare genetic disease that runs in her family by running the London Marathon. She tore a ligament badly but carried on to finish the Race. We run sessions around North Wales and hope to be running more shortly which consist of 2 hours singing with accompanying background music which we provide as well as the vocals. We use songs from 40s through to 60s and are very client led. We will be developing the sessions to include some of the younger persons living with Alzheimer’s and their carers/relatives so that we can hold some themed afternoons with fun quizzes and bingo sessions specially devised for those with impaired vision. It’s lovely to see people enjoy themselves and remember very special eras important to them and their families. Many of the Service Users sing along acapello and can make song requests which we try to fulfil so everyone has some special piece of music for them. The Alzheimer’s Society provide refreshments and the group can chat and provide support for one another, this is valuable for relatives also.
We also are running a number of TeaDances, we would like to change the name slightly so as not to put those people off who do not wish to dance. These are held around North Wales in Community Venues, well advertised on Facebook and by Red Rooster Discos and the Alzheimers’ Society also. Anyone is welcome and meets to have a chat, cream tea, cake, a drink and listen to some music. If people want to dance they can but equally some just come to socialise and chat to other Service Users and Carers. Volunteers from The Alzheimers’ Society are on hand to offer advice and support for those who want it and a lot of information is available at these session about future sessions and other activities the Alzheimer’s Society provide.
The cost of the tea and music sessions is free for those members of the Alzheimer’s Society and £3.50 for members of the public who drop into the sessions. This includes a free raffle ticket and refreshments.
It was very moving and shows the real power of music therapy for people living with dementia. The effect the music has on this gentleman lasts for a couple of hours after the music is played. He becomes responisve and coherent voicing his love of the music and how it makes him feel. We have seen this effect first hand on members who have attended the singing and tea dance sessions. Not only are the sessions valuable for triggering memories but provide a necessary support network for carers and relatives.
Our next tea dance is in Sychdyn Memorial Hall this Wednesday 19th August.

Amazing Dancing at the Wedding of Hannah and Mark in Edgebaston
When we do Wedding Fayres it’s difficult to create a visual impact to show off lighting and sound. We thought it would be fun to demonstrate this on our Social Media so have been posting lots of clips of our set ups, music , dancing and lighting at events to create that visual impact. Hannah and Mark contacted us last year from Switzerland where they live in Zurich and booked Red Rooster Discos. When we asked what had made them book us they felt they were able to communicate what they wanted on the night effectively via phone and e-mail. We are very good at keeping in touch with our clients to make sure we ‘get it right’ on the night for them. We met a Bride and Groom today from London who felt the music during the evening was the most important factor of their Wedding Day, something that would bring the whole weekend/ day together. They wanted some Reggae amongst other things. By meeting them we were able to discuss their evening requirements and listen to their fears and worries having attended other disastrous Weddings where the DJ played what he/she wanted or a scripted playlist of tracks. We never play from a playlist except to include the client’s requested songs, we put it together on the night whilst ‘reading the floor’ and deciding what people want. David is very experienced at this and it does take skill and time to learn to DJ. Also knowing how much to say on the microphone is important, some parties want lots of interaction, other clients want very little.
Tonight we are in Pentre Mawr, Llandyrnog, LL16 4LA.
Bre and Graham Carrington-Sykes who own Pentre Mawr are having an Open Evening for Brides and Grooms. Feel free to come along and meet their recommended suppliers. They have a new barn which is opening tonight to house their Weddings in. This has an amazing mezzanine area where the Disco is situated. Lighting will be amazing and bookings may be taken tonight for this lovely venue. The venue is open to Wedding Guests for the whole weekend and Bre and Graham go out of their way to make the Bride and Groom feel at home. There is a walled garden with a Falconry and bird displays can be organised for your Wedding. Red Rooster Discos can provide Ceremonial and Background music in the walled garden or elsewhere. We use our smaller Bose system if you want continuous background music or you can provide the IPod and we will provide the PA system which can be hired for £100 for the day complete with microphones for speeches and a bigger system if you want the music to make more impact. We can also be present to play live and take afternoon requests. This is found in our Sultan Package which is our all day package, adding visual impact with mood lighting in your choice of colour and our Chauvet Motion Starcloth which is sound activated and very pretty.
We have been asked recently if we can hire LED letters and have decided to offer this in 2016. The letters will be made by a sign Company in London which supply signage for The X Factor and Picturehouse Cinemas in Piccadilly, London.
Metal LOVE LED letter for 2016
The huge letters (120cm tall!) use traditional fairground turbo lights, which create these amazing reflections against the polished metal. Each letter individually wired with a UK plug and can be plugged straight into a 4 way adapter. The cost for hiring will incorporate a damage deposit which will be returnable. The letters will create an amazing visual impact for your photographs and during your Wedding Breakfast as well as light up the room during your evening reception.
Bookings being taken now for 2016-17. Contact us on email@example.com

Tea Dances and Sing Alongs
Red Rooster serve Cream Tea on Vintage Crockery
Tea Dances and Sing Alongs in conjunction with The Alzheimer’s Society are held with Red Rooster Discos. A full cream tea served in vintage crockery, served by waitresses in 1950s dress with a cup of tea or coffee and music from the bygone eras up to the 60s played during our Teadance or we can organise a Sing Along. Elderly and young can join together to share treasured memories. We started Teadances in Flintshire and Sing Alongs in Denbighshire and Conwy and are holding more in Bangor and across North Wales. These events are held in local Halls which we source due to their ease of parking and disabled facilities. We decorate them accordingly with bunting, vintage tablecloths and crockery.
We provide the musical session also for Singing for the Brain in conjunction again with The Alzheimer’s Society providing a range of different songs along with the use of our percussion instruments from different eras, musical styles and traditions based on familiar and well known songs and are led primarily by the group.

Making A Good Party
Like a good recipe, making a good party is not only about delivering the music but loving and understanding music which is something Red Rooster have a passion for. We have a feel and emotion for what we do. We still get excited when a new band breaks cover. We have been recently impressed by the likes of The Chvrches, Django Django and for the last month have been spinning a brand new track by Andy Grammar “Honey I’m Good” to which people feel compelled to get up and dance to, even though not many have heard of it yet. Friday night we had 74 people on the dance floor out of 100, when the Bar Staff were able to watch and join in with dancing even behind the bar. We bring laughter, music and dancing together at our events like the ingredients of a good recipe.
Judging by the last 4 Weddings we have done in 4 different parts of the UK we have had the pleasure to be at wonderful family events where young and older people have come together and make a party. Different genres of music have met head on , everything from Hard Rock to Euro Pop. where these two very different bodies of people have gelled and had great fun, check out our “5,6,7,8 Video at Hannah and Marks’ Wedding” . On Thursday in Tower Hill Barns, Llangollen in the last 40 minutes of the night we were asked “I don’t suppose you have any Doors to which we replied “Will RoadHouse Blues do you?” just to kick it off, followed up by Crosstown Traffic by Jimi Hendrix, followed by Neil Young’s “Rocking in The Free World” followed by The Doors ” Break On Through” with an encore of ” People Are Strange”.
End of the night at Hannah and Marks’ Wedding in Edgebaston
It is very important when you are putting your Wedding together to consider all aspects together of how it will go. It’s easy to book other add ons which distract the guests .Photos in booths and other kinds of entertainment going on can dilute your family event. A Wedding is a very important event where family members gather together and friends who haven’t seen one another for years can get together. At Red Rooster Discos we concentrate purely on the music and party side of the evening. Top quality DJing ensures that everyone sticks together to dance the night away . We are able to offer many set ups which will suit your venue, the correct sound equipment and visual impact of lighting and the choice between subtle pretty colour wash lighting or full on laser disco. We work closely with your photographers to get the best lighting for your First Dance and can continue the photo package when your photographer has gone by providing fun props and group photographs, uploading them live during the evening where it gives guests an opportunity to tag themselves and watch You Tube clips. At the same time we respect your privacy by asking our clients if they mind having pictures taken for marketing purposes and do not include any photos that we are not asked to.
The exploding balloon at Sarah and Grahams Wedding in Velindre, Brecon
Making a party come together is a skill that is a gift and takes a lot of hard work and training from your DJ. It is not about pressing buttons or playing every track that is requested hence why a lot of DJs download illegally from You Tube. Red Rooster source and pay for every track that is downloaded and then ensure it is played at the right time during the evening to really keep the floor moving. We don’t put megamixes on and walk away, tracks are chosen carefully live on the night, working round your playlist no matter how eclectic. This skill is worked on throughout the week at Red Rooster HQ when Dave is busy in the studio playing with music and tracks and then uses his microphone skills tactfully on the night to work his magic. Red Rooster Discos make the art of music come to life!……

A Lovely Wedding Venue in North Wales
This amazing Wedding Venue is set in the heart of North Wales in the picturesque home of the International Eisteddfod Llangollen. A family-run venue which prides itself on top quality service, just like Red Rooster Discos. We had the pleasure of making a special night for Felecia and Barry on Thursday night, a popular night for Weddings, midweek ensures you have the weekend to fully enjoy yourself with the whole family. Felecia who is from South Africa had the first dance to Van Morrison and then danced with her father.
Built in Welsh Oak a truly amazing Wedding Venue in Llangollen, North Wales
The couple hired our lawn games and we put mood lighting in the barn in the shades of blue and purple to match the couples’ Wedding Theme. Most of the playlist had been requested by the couple which allowed for some Guest requests. Felecia wanted us to fill the room with pretty colour wash lights especially for the first dance. The beauty of booking Red Rooster Discos is that we will meet with the Bride and Groom to discuss your requirements, lighting and music requirements. We are not an agency and do not send out inexperienced DJs and we do not play music downloaded from You Tube , all our tracks are downloaded LEGALLY as we are one of the few DJs that hold a Pro Dub licence in North Wales.

Red Rooster PA Hire now available
Red Rooster now have PA hire for all your events for £100. We can deliver and supply microphones for speeches or events. We have invested in a super duper HK Audio Nano 300 PA system available from today. We are bothered by sound quality and think this is a brilliant system with no ‘feedback’ or whistling when making your speeches. A superb sound system which you can use your IPod with or plug an acoustic guitar into or use as a stand alone. The sound quality is second to none.
Thank you both so much for making Phil’s 60th Birthday Party such a success. We are both very impressed with your service, from the time of our first contact with you everything you promised was delivered. You took the time to meet with us face to face to discuss the music we wanted and the […]
The disco was excellent they took time to ensure they delivered the right sort of music for the party resulting in the dance floor being full most of the night. Everybody enjoyed the evening and this is largely due to a good disco. I would highly recommend them and would not hesitate to book them […]
